UML Honors Record-Breaking Mountaineers at Chyasal

In a special ceremony held at the Nepal Communist Party (UML) headquarters in Chyasal, Lalitpur, notable mountaineers who have achieved remarkable feats in their field were honored. UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli led the program, recognizing the climbers’ exceptional contributions to mountaineering.

Among the distinguished honorees was Mingma David Sherpa, celebrated for his six successful ascents of K2, the world’s second-highest peak. Purnima Shrestha was also recognized for her extraordinary achievement of summiting Mount Everest three times within a single climbing season.

During the ceremony, Chairman Oli recounted his visit to Paris, where he met Maurice Herzog, the French climber renowned for his historic first ascent of Annapurna in 1950. Oli expressed his profound admiration for mountaineers and their incredible dedication and resilience.

The event saw the presence of several key figures, including UML Secretary Gokarna Bista, Standing Committee Member Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, and Binod Shrestha, President of the Nepal Trade Union Federation, among others. The ceremony underscored the UML’s appreciation of the mountaineering community’s achievements and its contribution to Nepal’s international prestige.
