The Bageshwari Temple area in Nepalgunj has been struggling with waste accumulation for an extended period, leading to a decline in the temple’s aesthetic appeal and creating an unpleasant odor. Despite continuous efforts to address the issue, proper waste management remains unachieved.
Local social leader Nandalal Vaishya expressed his disappointment over the lack of cleanliness at the renowned Bageshwari Temple. He shared that despite several appeals to the sub-metropolitan authorities, the waste has not been cleared. With the Navaratri festival approaching, Vaishya urged for immediate action to clean the temple’s pond, which has become polluted, further diminishing the beauty of the site.
Vaishya criticized both the temple management committee and the sub-metropolitan authority for their negligence. In response, the temple management committee’s secretary, Gopal Adhikari, stated that efforts are being made to prioritize cleanliness ahead of the upcoming festival. He mentioned that the pond in the temple complex will be cleaned within a few days, attributing the delay to the ongoing reconstruction of the nearby Junge Mahadev Temple.
Due to delays in the completion of the Junge Mahadev Temple reconstruction, other related tasks have been impacted. The temple’s pond has seen overgrowth of grass and weeds, while discarded plastic bottles have added to the pollution. Locals have also criticized the Guthi for ignoring the upkeep of the pond, despite the increasing waste in the surrounding areas.
