Madhesh Chief Minister Emphasizes the Importance of Preserving Nepal’s Rich Cultural Heritage

Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, Satish Kumar Singh, has highlighted the need to preserve the diverse arts and cultures of various ethnic groups in culturally rich Nepal. He made these remarks while inaugurating the Navadurga Puja organized by the Madhesh-Kaski Contact Society at Talchowk, Lekhnath, Pokhara-27.

During the event, Chief Minister Singh emphasized that the Navadurga Puja, celebrated with particular reverence by the Madhesi community in different parts of Nepal, represents a unique cultural heritage that must be protected. He underscored the importance of cultural preservation, especially in a country like Nepal, which is home to a wide variety of ethnic groups and traditions.

He also highlighted the significant role played by the Madhesi people in the establishment of Nepal’s republican system and noted that strengthening federalism requires the collaboration of all Nepalis. Pointing out the necessity for elected officials to work in the interest of the people, Singh expressed the view that a directly elected executive Prime Minister and Chief Minister would enable leaders to effectively implement their plans over a five-year term.

Discussing the nation’s path to prosperity, Chief Minister Singh stressed the need for the government to accelerate its efforts in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and industry, calling for cooperation and support from all stakeholders. He also mentioned the potential for enhancing Nepal’s tourism by introducing a direct flight between Pokhara and Janakpur. According to Singh, such a connection would not only boost tourism but also make it easier for Indian tourists visiting Janakpur’s Janaki Temple to explore Pokhara.

Singh also pointed out that Muktinath Temple in Mustang, a popular religious destination for Indian tourists, is another reason why a direct Pokhara-Janakpur flight is necessary. He further suggested reforms in the country’s education system, advocating for employment-oriented education to address the current issue of youth unemployment. He recommended the federal government take steps to transform the existing education policies.

The Navadurga Puja, which will last for nine days, is expected to draw participation from various communities. Speaking at the event, Januka Parajuli, General Secretary of the Lekhnath Chamber of Commerce and Industry, emphasized that the responsibility of preserving Nepal’s diverse cultural heritage lies with the government. The event was chaired by Satendra Kumar Das, President of the Madhesh-Pokhara Contact Society.
