Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), along with four prominent travel companies from Nepal, successfully participated in the China Outbound Travel and Tourism Market (COTTM 2024), held from October 16-18 in Beijing, China. COTTM is one of the most prominent tourism business platforms in the region, providing an excellent opportunity for Nepal to enhance its tourism business and attract more Chinese travelers.
Key officials from the Nepal Embassy in China, including Chargé d’affaires and Acting Ambassador Mr. Surendra Kumar Yadav, visited the Nepal stall at the exhibition. During the visit, NTB representatives and the embassy discussed effective promotion strategies with travel trade companies to improve Nepal’s outreach in the Chinese market.
The participating companies, Adventure Outdoor, Jugal Holidays, Himalayan 360, and NBM Travel, joined NTB in showcasing Nepal’s tourism offerings. The exhibition allowed the Nepali delegation to strengthen ties with Chinese travel businesses and further promote Nepal as a destination for adventure, culture, and nature lovers.

Nepal’s connectivity with China has significantly improved with direct flights from major Chinese cities. Airlines such as China Southern (Guangzhou), China Eastern (Kunming), Air China (Chengdu), Sichuan Airlines (Chengdu), Himalayan Airlines (Lhasa, Shanghai, Qingdao, Chongqing), Nepal Airlines, and Cathay Pacific (Hong Kong) offer direct connections to Kathmandu.
While Chinese travelers currently rank destinations like Korea, Japan, the USA, and Thailand as their top choices, Nepal’s targeted promotional efforts aim to increase Chinese tourist arrivals. With these initiatives, Nepal is optimistic about welcoming around 100,000 Chinese tourists by the end of 2024.
This participation marks a significant step forward in strengthening Nepal’s position in the Chinese tourism market, leveraging its natural beauty and cultural richness to attract a greater share of the growing outbound travel market from China.
