A documentary about Italian food, A Taste of Italy, made by Nepali chef Tanka Sapkota, was shown in Portugal. It premiered on Portugal’s National TV channel, TVI, on February 2.
The film, directed by Portuguese filmmaker Tiago Pedro de Carvalho, explores Italian food traditions, culture, and famous dishes. Sapkota is both the host and a key figure in the documentary, which is available in Portuguese and Italian.
Sapkota has spent 30 years in Europe, sharing the taste of Italian cuisine. The six-episode series takes viewers on a journey through the history and secrets of Italian cooking.
His restaurant, Forno d’Oro, was named one of Europe’s best restaurants last year. He also made history by discovering black truffles in Portugal with a team of experts and researchers.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sapkota ran a free food campaign for a month, helping people who lost their jobs and providing meals for 1,000 low-income individuals in Portugal.
