Adani Enterprises has denied reports that it is planning to enter India’s commercial airline business, saying it is not considering any proposal to launch an airline. In a regulatory exchange filing on Friday, the company categorically rejected recent media reports and market speculation suggesting that the Adani Group was preparing to expand into the scheduled aviation sector.
“We would like to categorically deny recent media reports and market speculation suggesting that the Company is planning to launch an airline. The reports are entirely baseless and factually incorrect,” Adani Enterprises said in its filing. The company further clarified that it is “not evaluating any proposal to enter the airline business.”
Reports linked to airport ownership rules
The clarification came after reports suggested that the Adani Group was exploring possible changes to existing regulations that restrict operators of Delhi and Mumbai airports from holding more than a 10 percent stake in a scheduled airline. The speculation had fueled expectations that the conglomerate could seek to enter the commercial aviation market.
However, the company’s latest statement has ruled out any immediate plans to establish or operate an airline. While the group has denied plans to enter the airline business, it already maintains a significant presence in India’s aviation sector through its airport operations.
Adani expands airport-linked business
The Adani Group has continued to expand its airport business and is increasingly focusing on developing commercial ecosystems around major aviation hubs. Last month, Adani Airports announced plans to invest more than $2 billion in airport-linked commercial developments at six locations across India.
The planned projects are expected to include hotels, retail spaces and office complexes, forming part of a broader strategy to develop business and commercial hubs around airports. The expansion reflects the group’s focus on strengthening its position in airport infrastructure and related real estate and commercial activities without entering the airline sector.
Group operates eight airports across India
The Group entered India’s airport business in 2019 and currently operates eight airports through Adani Enterprises. Its airport portfolio includes major facilities such as Mumbai, Jaipur and Thiruvananthapuram airports.
In addition to aviation infrastructure, Adani Enterprises has a diversified presence across sectors including roads, real estate and infrastructure. Despite its growing footprint in India’s aviation industry, the company has now made clear that it has no current plans to launch a commercial airline.
