Adverse weather conditions have caused significant disruptions to both domestic and international flights across Nepal. According to the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) office, the continuous rainfall has reduced visibility, affecting flight schedules.
Jagannath Niraula, the General Manager of TIA, confirmed that an Air China flight was diverted due to the poor weather, and other international flights have also experienced delays.
On the domestic front, airports in Pokhara, Bharatpur, and Simara remained closed until the afternoon due to low visibility. Only Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flights are currently operating. No flights from Kathmandu to Pokhara have taken place, while only two flights from Pokhara to Kathmandu have been recorded.
Buddha Air’s spokesperson, Dipendra Kumar Karn, reported that regional flights to Bharatpur, Pokhara, and Nepalgunj have also been affected by the weather. Additionally, the flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar was canceled.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecast Division attributes the disruptions to the ongoing impact of monsoon winds across the country. The monsoon low-pressure line is currently located south of its average position, resulting in partial to moderate cloud cover across the nation.
Light to moderate rainfall is occurring in some areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, with a possibility of heavy rain in a few locations in Koshi and Gandaki provinces.
