Adverse Weather Disrupts Flights at Tribhuvan International Airport

Tribhuvan International Airport

Flights at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) faced disruptions today due to adverse weather conditions, affecting both domestic and international services. According to TIA officials, poor visibility caused by continuous rainfall significantly impacted flight schedules.

TIA Spokesperson Rinji Sherpa stated that while flights to Janakpur, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, and Dhangadhi remained operational, services to Bhadrapur, Simara, Bharatpur, Pokhara, and Surkhet were canceled. Flights on the Kathmandu-Biratnagar route resumed regular operations from 3:00 PM onwards.

International flights were also affected, with two planes—Indigo Airlines from New Delhi, India, and Thai Air from Bangkok, Thailand—placed on hold for approximately an hour. This led to delays in some international services, although flights are now back on schedule.

The adverse weather, influenced by monsoon winds and a low-pressure system over Maharashtra, India, reduced visibility at TIA. Only flights supported by Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) were operational throughout the day. Additionally, no mountain flights were conducted from the airport today.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology confirmed that the country remains under the influence of monsoon weather, further complicating flight operations.
