Air India Flight From Mumbai To New York Diverted After Bomb Threat

An Air India flight AI-119, which was en route from Mumbai to New York, was forced to return to Mumbai after a bomb threat was discovered in the airplane’s bathroom. The flight took off from Mumbai’s Terminal-2 at 1:45 PM local time, and after about 8 hours and 37 minutes of flying, it was diverted back to Mumbai due to the threat. The aircraft, which was carrying 322 passengers and 19 crew members, was mid-flight when a note containing a bomb threat was found inside the bathroom.

Following standard security procedures, the airline decided to return the plane to Mumbai for safety reasons, ensuring that the situation was handled with the highest level of precaution. The plane, which was originally headed to New York, touched down at Mumbai airport at 10:25 AM IST, several hours later than scheduled.

Upon arrival in Mumbai, the airport and aviation authorities initiated immediate investigations into the incident. The airline expressed regret for the disruption caused to the passengers and has apologized for the inconvenience.

In response to the situation, Air India confirmed that they have rescheduled the flight for 5 AM on April 11, 2025. The airline made arrangements for the affected passengers, providing them with hotel accommodation, meals, and any other necessary assistance. The affected passengers were informed that their flight would depart on the newly scheduled date and time.

This incident follows a similar occurrence on March 6, when an Air India flight from Chicago to Delhi was forced to return to Chicago after five hours of flight due to a technical issue. In both cases, the airline worked to ensure that passengers were quickly provided with alternative arrangements to minimize the disruption to their travel plans.
