Annapurna Conservation Area Sees 35,952 Foreign Tourists in Kartik, an 8% Increase

The Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) recorded a total of 35,952 foreign tourists visiting various destinations within the region during Kartik, marking an 8 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Year-on-Year Growth in Tourism

In Kartik of 2081, 33,310 foreign tourists visited the area, while in 2080, 24,416 tourists explored its scenic landscapes. ACAP’s Chief, Dr. Rabin Kadariya, noted that the months of Ashoj–Kartik are considered the peak tourist season in Nepal, attracting the highest number of visitors. Among South Asian countries, Indian tourists comprise the largest share of foreign visitors to the Annapurna region.

Focus on Trekking Tourism

ACAP primarily tracks tourists undertaking the Annapurna Circuit trekking route, while road-accessible destinations witness substantial numbers of domestic visitors every year. Dr. Kadariya added that the Kartik season coincides with major festivals and holidays, which also boosts domestic tourism during this period.

Popular Tourist Destinations

During this peak season, destinations such as Annapurna Base Camp, Mardi Himal, Ghandruk, Tilicho Lake in Manang, Thorong La Pass, Upper Mustang, Ghorapani in Myagdi, and Poon Hill experience increased tourist footfall. While Indian tourists typically use road routes to reach religious destinations like Muktinath, visitors from other countries prefer trekking routes for an immersive experience.

Expansive Conservation Area

The Annapurna Conservation Area spans 7,600 square kilometers, covering 87 wards across 15 local units in Kaski, Lamjung, Manang, Myagdi, and Mustang. The region is celebrated worldwide for its breathtaking Himalayan landscapes, well-developed tourist-friendly infrastructure, favorable climate, and local hospitality, making the Annapurna Circuit one of the most sought-after trekking destinations globally.

Diverse Trekking Options

Trekking routes from Kaski, Lamjung, Manang, and Myagdi provide options for short, medium, and long-distance treks, accommodating travelers of all experience levels. The area’s combination of cultural heritage, natural beauty, and accessible trails continues to attract a mix of domestic and international tourists, solidifying its reputation as a premier trekking and adventure destination in Nepal.
