In a remarkable display of courage, commitment, and patriotism, Armed Police Force (APF) Assistant Inspector Danta Bahadur Chhantyal has successfully reached the summit of Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world, standing tall at 8,848 meters (29,029 feet).
Chhantyal hoisted the flags of the ‘Sagarmatha Dialogue’ and the Armed Police Force Nepal at the summit on Sunday morning at 9:20 AM, according to APF Inspector Nirmal Basnet, the coordination officer at the Everest Base Camp. He was accompanied on the ascent by mountaineer Bangi Sherpa, who also successfully reached the summit at the same time.
The climb was not only a personal achievement but also a symbolic mission. APF spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police Shailendra Thapa confirmed that Chhantyal undertook this expedition as a Goodwill Ambassador to promote the global message of the Sagarmatha Dialogue 2024, a three-day international event held from Jestha 2 to 4 (May 16–18). The dialogue aimed to raise awareness about climate change, disaster preparedness, and regional cooperation from the vantage point of the Himalayas.

Before scaling Everest, Assistant Inspector Chhantyal also achieved the summit of Lobuche Peak (6,114 meters) on Baishakh 22 (May 5), showcasing his high-altitude readiness and dedication to mountaineering excellence. Chhantyal embarked on his Everest journey on Baishakh 15 (April 28). His expedition was flagged off with honor by then-Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and APF Inspector General Raju Aryal on Baishakh 14, who both extended heartfelt best wishes for his successful and safe ascent.
Currently, Assistant Inspector Chhantyal is stationed at the Highland Disaster Management Sub-Branch under the APF Headquarters. His ascent is a proud moment for Nepal’s security forces, demonstrating the valor and resilience of APF personnel beyond conventional roles. This mission also received support and coordination from several national stakeholders, including Ncell and NCHL, who were key partners in facilitating communication and coverage of the expedition.
The Sagarmatha Dialogue, which is gaining global attention as Nepal’s climate diplomacy initiative, found a powerful representative in Chhantyal. By hoisting its flag atop the world, he has contributed significantly to raising international awareness about environmental sustainability and disaster resilience in the Himalayas.

His accomplishment is not only a personal triumph but also a matter of national pride and inspiration for Nepalese youths, particularly those serving in uniform. This successful Everest ascent is a testament to what disciplined training, patriotism, and dedication to a cause can achieve. As more climbers aim to scale Mt. Everest each year, missions like these, combining adventure with national advocacy, reflect a growing trend in Nepal’s mountaineering scene, where expeditions serve both athletic and diplomatic purposes.
Chhantyal’s achievement has been widely celebrated across government circles, security forces, and the mountaineering community alike. His journey from Lobuche to Everest serves as a motivational blueprint for future APF personnel and civilians alike who aspire to reach great heights literally and figuratively.
With this ascent, APF Nepal reinforces its presence not just on the ground but also at the world’s highest peak, symbolizing its multifaceted role in national service from disaster response to representing the country on global platforms. His successful climb marks a significant milestone in Nepal’s high-altitude diplomacy, blending physical endurance, national pride, and international engagement in a single, powerful gesture.
