Australian Ambassador to Nepal, Simon Ernst, hosted a special reception event in Kathmandu to honor Australian climbers who successfully summited Mount Everest during the 2026 climbing season. The event recognized the extraordinary achievements of Australian Everest summiteers, several of whom also set remarkable records during their ascent.
Summiting Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak at 8,850 meters, is considered one of the greatest challenges in mountaineering. In 2026, at least six Australians reached the summit, each undertaking the expedition not only as a physical challenge but also to promote meaningful social causes and inspire broader audiences.
Climbing Beyond Limits and Stereotypes
The Australian climbers were recognized for their diverse motivations, which extended beyond mountaineering achievements. Many used their Everest expeditions to raise awareness for important social issues, challenge stereotypes, and encourage others to overcome personal and physical limitations.

Record-Breaking Australian Achievements on Everest
Several Australian climbers achieved historic milestones during their 2026 Everest expedition:
- Bianca Adler became the youngest Australian to successfully reach the summit of Mount Everest.
- Zakia Ahmad became the first Afghan woman to scale the world’s highest peak. A refugee who fled Afghanistan following the return of the Taliban, she has since resettled in Australia and completed the historic ascent.
- Oliver Foran set a record for the fastest ascent of Everest from sea level, beginning his journey by cycling from the shores of the Bay of Bengal before his climb.
- Jennifer Willis, a mother of three living with Multiple Sclerosis, also successfully reached the summit, demonstrating resilience and determination in the face of health challenges.
Each climber’s journey reflected a unique personal mission, with many using their expeditions to raise awareness about health conditions, migration experiences, resilience, and the importance of pursuing ambitious goals.
