The picturesque town of Bandipur continues to charm tourists with its unique combination of weather, culture, and heritage architecture. “The weather and culture of the place are truly captivating. Visiting for the first time, I was completely enchanted,” said Deepa Thapa Magar from Chitwan. She highlighted the town’s traditional houses and the respectful way locals communicate as particularly appealing.
Heritage Architecture Draws Tourists
Second-time visitor Pratibha Niure Sapkota, also from Chitwan, emphasized the attraction of it’s old homes, saying, “The houses built in the Newar architectural style add to the town’s charm.” Similarly, Pradeep Jung from Kathmandu, who arrived after touring Mustang, remarked on the distinctive appeal of Bandipur compared to other destinations, praising its market and heritage structures as a rare and delightful experience.

Tourists Enjoy Local Attractions and Activities
Aashika Paudel, a visitor from Chitwan who stayed overnight, highlighted the newly constructed Mini Great Wall, which she noted resembles China’s Great Wall. She added, “We also went hiking in Bandipur. It is a suitable tourist destination, and I would recommend friends to visit as well.” Local visitors and tourists alike are seen capturing photos and making videos in traditional cultural attire, further promoting it’s allure.
Rise in Tourist Footfall After Gen-Z Movement
According to Sujan Shrestha, Vice President of the Bandipur Hotel Entrepreneurs’ Association, tourism has picked up pace following the recent Gen-Z movement, which had affected visitor numbers. Previously, tourist crowds were mostly seen on Fridays and Saturdays, but now the town witnesses a daily influx of tourists, including both domestic and foreign visitors.
Accommodation and Tourism Capacity
Kisan Pradhan, President of the Bandipur Tourism Development Committee, shared that approximately 1,000 tourists visit Bandipur daily, with 200–300 staying overnight. Bandipur currently has 66 hotels with the capacity to accommodate up to 4,000 guests at a time. Pradhan noted that while some international tourists canceled bookings during previous disruptions, domestic tourism has surged, with visitors enjoying day trips and some choosing to stay overnight.

Bandipur Visit Year 2025 Initiative
Surendra Thapa, Chairperson of Bandipur Rural Municipality, stated that the Bandipur Visit Year 2025 has been launched to encourage longer tourist stays. The town offers panoramic views of surrounding Himalayan ranges, making it a growing tourist hotspot. In 2081 B.S., over 200,000 tourists visited here, including 60,000 international and 150,000 domestic visitors. Visitors came from countries such as Japan, China, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, France, the United States, Germany, Denmark, Pakistan, Australia, the UK, Ireland, South Korea, Belgium, Thailand, Taiwan, Switzerland, Malaysia, Portugal, Czech Republic, Iran, India, Greece, and Argentina.

The municipality has identified several major tourist destinations, including Khadgadevi Temple, Thanimai Temple, Mahalaxmi Temple, Siddha Gufa, Mini Great Wall, Three Fountains, Waterfall and Spray, Tundikhel, Manimukunda Sen Palace, and Padma Library. Bandipur’s Newar-style houses, Tundikhel, Rani Ban, Ramkot, Sunkhari, Bindhyabasini Temple, and the information center remain central attractions for tourists, highlighting the town’s unique blend of culture, history, and natural beauty.
