Bhaktapur Municipality has initiated a clean-up campaign today along the Sa procession route in preparation for the upcoming Gunhipunhi, also known as the Gaijatra (Sa) festival. The campaign, aimed at ensuring a peaceful celebration of the festival, was led by Mayor Sunil Prajapati and Deputy Mayor Rajani Joshi.
The clean-up rally began from Khwopa and culminated in a gathering at Dattatreya. During the event, Mayor Prajapati urged the community to celebrate the Gaijatra festival with grandeur and called on internet and cable service providers to organize and manage the hanging wires throughout the city.
The Gaijatra festival in Bhaktapur is known for its vibrant traditional dances. The municipality has been recognizing these performances by awarding prizes and evaluating both traditional and modern dance forms. Additionally, Bhaktapur Municipality has been actively working on preserving tangible and intangible heritage, aiming to develop the city as a prominent tourist destination.
Deputy Mayor Joshi highlighted that most of the heritage sites damaged by the earthquake have been reconstructed, with some projects still ongoing. The clean-up program saw participation from students of various schools, who carried placards with awareness messages as they paraded through the city.
