In a strategic move aimed at enhancing tourism prospects, Bharatpur Municipality in Chitwan has announced a substantial 40% fare reduction on public transportation services operating within its central urban areas. This initiative, launched in conjunction with Bharatpur Tourism Year 2024, is expected to significantly boost accessibility for both domestic and international tourists visiting the region.
The announcement, which covers public transport services provided by prominent operators such as Chitwan Express Transport Service, Trinetra Transport Service, and Om Shanti Transport Service, marks a proactive step towards facilitating seamless travel experiences during the tourism-focused year. These transport companies, collectively managing a fleet of 150 vehicles daily from eastern Chitwan to Bharatpur, aim to streamline commuting options and enhance visitor convenience across the municipality.
Mr. Badri Prasad Paudel, Chairman of Chitwan Express Transport Service, elaborated on the strategic rationale behind the fare discounts, emphasizing their role in amplifying the allure of Bharatpur as a premier tourist destination. Highlighting the inclusive nature of the initiative, Paudel noted that senior citizens aged 68 and above would enjoy complimentary travel privileges, underscoring efforts to create a hospitable tourism environment.
“Our transport services operate with a frequency of every 3-3 minutes along the Ring Road area. The introduction of fare reductions specifically geared towards tourist hubs is aimed at further promoting visitor engagement. Plans are underway to extend these benefits to various other tourist-centric routes,” stated Paudel.
Mayor Renu Dahal of Bharatpur Municipality acknowledged the commencement of fare reductions within the public transport network spanning the Ring Road area. She also hinted at forthcoming collaborations with private sector entities to introduce comprehensive tourism packages aligned with Bharatpur Tourism Year.
“We have been steadfast in our commitment to facilitating reduced fares across hotels, transportation, businesses, and other sectors right from the onset. We anticipate these efforts will yield significant dividends for the district’s overall economic landscape,” Mayor Dahal remarked optimistically.
Deputy Mayor Chitrasen Adhikari echoed Mayor Dahal’s sentiments, affirming ongoing endeavors to extend fare discounts throughout all public transport routes under the municipality’s jurisdiction. Meanwhile, Chief District Officer Indradev Yadav expressed confidence in the positive impact of lowered transportation costs on tourist influxes, foreseeing heightened arrivals during the landmark Bharatpur Tourism Year.
Tourism expert Bishwo Subedi underscored the pivotal role of transport entrepreneurs in driving tourism growth, estimating potential visitations by 200,000 international and 500,000 domestic tourists throughout the campaign period. Subedi emphasized the critical importance of enhancing connectivity to 7 major tourist destinations and upgrading facilities at 21 key tourist sites, thereby fostering a more enriching visitor experience.
As preparations continue to unfold, Bharatpur Municipality remains steadfast in its commitment to leveraging transportation incentives as a catalyst for tourism-driven economic prosperity across the region.
