The sixth edition of the Chinese language training program for tourism entrepreneurs in Nepal has commenced today. The event was inaugurated jointly by Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Hit Bahadur Tamang, and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song.
This training initiative, conducted by the Kathmandu-based Chinese Embassy in collaboration with the Nepal Tourism Board and the Nepal China Cultural and Educational Council, will span the next six months. Minister Tamang highlighted the importance of language skills in attracting tourists from China, emphasizing the need to create attractive packages to draw more visitors from neighboring countries, including China and India.
Ambassador Chen shared his observations on the quick and clear manner in which Nepali people have been learning the Chinese language. He noted that the Chinese language serves as a cornerstone for both ancient history and modern scientific development. He pointed out that many Chinese traders and investors are looking to Nepal as a potential market and that having a workforce proficient in Chinese is a primary requirement for them. He also encouraged Chinese nationals to learn Nepali to better connect with Nepal’s rich art and culture.
Hikmat Singh Ayer, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Tourism Board, stated that language proficiency is a powerful tool in the tourism and hospitality industry. He expressed confidence that training in the world’s second-most spoken language would significantly boost Chinese tourism in Nepal.
Harish Chandra Shah, Chair of the Nepal China Cultural and Educational Council, mentioned that 200 individuals who previously underwent Chinese language training are now actively engaged in various tourism businesses across Nepal. He also noted the increasing demand for Chinese language classes beyond the capital city. The program aims to enhance cultural ties and improve the quality of tourism services, ultimately fostering stronger relations between Nepal and China.
