Chitwan National Park Halts Safari Activities Due to Monsoon

Chitwan National Park has announced the suspension of all safari activities starting Ashadh 15 due to the arrival of the monsoon season.

Chief Conservation Officer Dil Bahadur Purja Pun explained that heavy rainfall leads to the degradation of dirt roads within the park, flooding in smaller streams, and the risk of trees falling and obstructing paths. These hazards necessitate the temporary halt of safari activities to ensure visitor safety.

This annual closure is a routine measure taken by the park during the rainy season. Although last year’s closure began on Ashadh 1, this year’s suspension will continue until further notice, according to Purja Pun.

Tourists visiting the area can still participate in alternative activities such as elephant rides, jeep safaris, and walking safaris in the buffer zone community forests, despite the suspension within the main park.
