Chitwan National Park is gearing up to resume its jungle safari operations, which were suspended due to heavy monsoon rains since Ashadh 16. The park has initiated repairs on roads and infrastructure necessary for the safari, with efforts focused on making the park accessible to tourists once again.
According to Dil Bahadur Purja Pun, Chief Conservation Officer of the park, repair work has started on the safari routes in both the eastern and western sections of the park. “Work in the western area has already been completed, and preparations are underway in the eastern section,” he said. The park is also repairing three bridges that were damaged by the rain, clearing roads, and removing overgrown bushes along the routes.
Pun highlighted that the park’s main tourist attraction is the jeep safari, and efforts are being made to resume this popular activity. Other activities, including boat safaris, bird watching, and elephant safaris, are currently ongoing, particularly in the community forest areas.
Jeep safaris are already taking place in the Kumroj Forest Area, with plans to expand to other areas of the park depending on weather conditions. While the park is preparing to reopen jeep safaris from Ashoj 16, further decisions will be made based on the weather, Pun noted. “Even if the rains continue, we are aiming to resume jeep safaris before Dashain,” he added.
This resumption is expected to boost tourism in the park, a popular destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers.
