Chitwan National Park Relocates Rhinos to Eastern Sector

Chitwan National Park has initiated the transfer of rhinos from its western sector to the eastern sector, specifically to the Khagendramalli area. On Saturday, a 15-year-old female rhino was captured using a dart (a syringe with medicinal substances) and was released in Khagendramalli this morning.

According to Avinash Thapa Magar, the park’s information officer, the rhino was captured from Amaltari in the western sector of the park. The adult female rhino was tranquilized using a dart and controlled at the Gundari Dhakaha Community Forest in Kawasoti.

Magar stated that because the western sector has a higher population of rhinos, four rhinos from this area are being relocated to the eastern sector. Last year, six rhinos were transferred as part of similar conservation efforts.

Based on the recommendations of a study team, which suggested transferring 10 rhinos from the western sector, the park has begun the relocation process, with the technical team starting in Amaltari, Nawalpur. This transfer is part of efforts to balance the rhino population and promote better conservation management.
