A young male rhino named ‘Mainla’, raised under the care of the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), has been relocated from Chitwan National Park (CNP), Sauraha, to the Central Zoo in Lalitpur. The move was executed following the decision made by the Ministry of Forests and Environment on May 7.
CNP sends ‘Mainla’ to Central Zoo

According to Abinash Thapa Magar, Information Officer at CNP, the 23-month-old rhino was successfully transported to the Central Zoo on Wednesday. Mainla had originally been brought to Chitwan from Bardiya National Park.

In line with the Ministry’s plan, another rhino named ‘Puja’, a 30-month-old female, is also scheduled to be sent to the Central Zoo. However, Magar informed that despite preparations, Puja’s transfer could not take place on Wednesday due to unforeseen circumstances.

The transfer of rhinos to the Central Zoo is part of a broader effort to promote wildlife education, raise awareness about endangered species, and enhance conservation efforts outside protected areas.
