Chumnubri Rural Municipality has announced the implementation of a new trekking fee for both foreign and local tourists visiting the Manaslu Conservation Area, under the authority granted by the Local Government Operation Act 2074. According to the new rules, foreign tourists are required to pay a fee of Rs 1000 per person, while Nepali tourists will be charged Rs 200 per person.
The trekking fees collected will be utilized for the conservation and development of the Manaslu Conservation Area. Specific areas of focus include tourist safety, waste management, wildfire control, construction of new and alternative trekking paths, road and bridge maintenance, and the installation of signposts and maps. The fees will also support local tourism initiatives such as homestay business promotion, environmental protection, and the maintenance of monasteries.
Additionally, the funds will be used for constructing water supply systems, shelters, and enclosures, as well as providing tourism-related training to local communities. The municipality will also coordinate rescue and relief efforts when necessary.
It is important to note that the trekking permit fees collected by the National Trust for Nature Conservation and the Department of Immigration are separate from these newly introduced fees. The Chumnubri Rural Municipality assures that all fees paid will contribute directly to maintaining the environmental sustainability of the Manaslu region.
