A climber who sustained serious injuries while descending Dhaulagiri in Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality–4, Myagdi, has been successfully rescued after two days in a high-altitude operation. The injured climber, Mingma Tenzi Sherpa, 21, from Makalu Rural Municipality–2, had suffered severe injuries after falling during descent from the mountain.
Fall Occurred Near Summit After Successful Ascent
According to rescuers, the incident occurred on Friday morning as Mingma was descending after successfully summiting the 8,167-meter-high Dhaulagiri, one of the world’s highest peaks. He reportedly slipped near the summit area and fell approximately 400 meters, sustaining critical injuries in the process. The extreme altitude and difficult terrain made immediate rescue operations challenging.
Rescue Operation Conducted Under Harsh Conditions
A coordinated rescue effort was launched involving climbers and support teams stationed at various high camps. Furu Tenzi Sherpa, a member of the 14 Summit Expedition team, confirmed that communication was established with the base camp soon after the incident.
Rescue personnel were mobilized from upper camps to reach the injured climber. Despite harsh weather conditions and logistical challenges, the team managed to bring Mingma down to the base camp by Saturday night. Fur Tenzi Sherpa stated that the rescue required careful coordination and rapid response to ensure the climber’s survival in extreme conditions.
Airlifted to Kathmandu for Medical Care
Following his arrival at the base camp, Mingma Tenzi Sherpa was airlifted to Kathmandu for further medical treatment. Officials confirmed that he is currently receiving care at a medical facility, though details about his condition have not been fully disclosed.
