The construction of pedestrian pathways at two important sites within Muktinath Dham has reached its final stages, aiming to facilitate easier access and convenience for the growing number of pilgrims visiting this sacred site. The pathways are being developed in the Purang Ranipauwa market area and along the route from the main entrance of Muktinath to Jwalamai Gompa, under the supervision of the Division Road Office Baglung.
Pilgrims’ Pathways at Muktinath
According to Engineer Sagar Bhandari of the Division Road Office Baglung, contracts for the construction of the two separate pathways were signed under the fiscal year 2081/82 annual budget provisions. A budget allocation of NPR 1 crore has been earmarked for the pathway in the Ranipauwa market area, and an additional NPR 1 crore for the route leading to Jwalamai Gompa.

The Ranipauwa market pathway project is being carried out by Two Bhai Construction Service, Kathmandu, with a plan to complete the work by the end of Ashar this fiscal year. The work involves constructing drainage systems, footpaths, and laying flagstones over a 200-meter stretch from near the Muktinath bus park towards the Ranipauwa market area. Engineer Bhandari highlighted that this pathway will be eight meters wide, complete with drainage and footpaths, enhancing both the convenience of devotees and the aesthetics of Ranipauwa market.
In the Ranipauwa market, a 45 percent physical progress has been achieved by laying flagstones on a four-meter-wide pedestrian path to upgrade the walking route. This enhancement is expected to improve the safety and accessibility of the area significantly.

Simultaneously, the construction of a reinforced concrete staircase with railings from the main entrance of Muktinath to Jwalamai is underway, managed by PK Construction. The staircase will cover a distance of 350 meters and feature a width of 2.1 meters. The Division Road Office Baglung reported that the construction progress of this stairway pathway has reached 80 percent completion.
These infrastructural improvements are expected to greatly ease pilgrim movement and add to the overall development and beautification of the Muktinath pilgrimage site, which attracts thousands of visitors annually. The completion of these pathways will provide safer and more comfortable access, especially during peak pilgrimage seasons. The Division Road Office Baglung is committed to completing both projects within the current fiscal year, thereby contributing significantly to the promotion of tourism and religious activities in the Muktinath area.
