According to Badri Prasad Pandey, Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Nepal’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage should be appropriately preserved since it is becoming more and more recognized worldwide. He said that if management is made effective, history and culture enthusiasts from all over the world can be invited to Nepal at a program held today at the National Museum in Chhauni in honor of International Museum Day.

Minister Pandey underlined that museums should be preserved so that future generations can view them and that they are a vital tool for the younger generation to reflect on the past. The museum collections in Nepal are distinctive. Museums can act as a conduit for the preservation of history and culture when they are in danger of vanishing. Museums ought to be established as cultural and historical hubs. In the age of artificial intelligence, museums need to incorporate AI as well,” he stated.

Minister Pandey also emphasized the importance of integrating cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and virtual reality into the domains of culture and religion. In order to boost visitors and promote the museum, he urged concerned officials to proceed with showcasing artifacts in storytelling formats that include details about who made what and when.
“I am committed to organizing museums by creating structures that bridge the old and the new,” said Saubhagya Pradhanang, director general of the Department of Archaeology. In an effort to make International Museum Day more widely known, he also announced that beginning the following year, International Museum Day-related activities will be incorporated into the International Council of Museums events. He added that the department is home to eight museums.

International Museum Day is observed today in 158 countries with 37,000 museums worldwide, according to Dr. Suresh Surash Shrestha, Chief of the Ministry’s Culture Division. He also shared that the state of museums and communities is comparable across nations. Even though Nepal will soon mark 100 years of museum establishment, he said, the country still appears to be in its infancy.
He emphasized that heritage conservation is a key component of sustainable development goals and pointed out the difficulty in drawing in young people, who are becoming more and more disconnected from culture. Every year on May 18, we commemorate International Museum Day. The theme for this year is “The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine.”
