Annapurna Gaunpalika-6, home to the popular trekking destination of Poon Hill-Ghorepani, welcomed 11,606 tourists in the past six months, according to the Tourist Police Post in Ghorepani. This figure marks a decline compared to the same period last year, when over 12,600 foreign tourists visited the area.
Tourists from 57 different countries have visited the region this year. However, with the peak tourist season now underway, the number of visitors is expected to rise significantly in November, said Julithkuri Pun, Vice Chairperson of the Ghorepani Community Improvement Committee. Hotels in the area have also introduced a 10% discount to attract more domestic tourists, adding further encouragement for travel.
“We are excited by the return of tourists,” Pun added, expressing optimism about the ongoing recovery in visitor numbers.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ghorepani used to attract around 70,000 tourists annually. In 2080 BS (2023 AD), 31,000 foreign tourists visited, while in 2079 BS (2022 AD), the number stood at 26,000, according to the police records.
Tourists typically arrive in Ghorepani through a variety of trekking routes, including Tatopani via Annapurna Circuit, and others such as Birethanti-Ulleri in Kaski, Chhomrong-Ghandruk-Tadapani, and Nagi-Mahare.
