Dhorbarah Temple, located in the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve’s Uttarganga area, saw a significant influx of devotees from early morning today, as people from all over Nepal gathered to participate in the Janai Purnima celebrations.
The temple, a major Shakti Peeth in western Baglung, hosts a grand religious fair every year on Janai Purnima. It is believed that worshipping at Dhorbarah Temple fulfills the devotees’ wishes, drawing thousands to the site annually.
Jeevan Pun, the chairman of the Dhorpatan Valley Hotel Entrepreneurs Committee, reported that devotees began lining up as early as 5 AM to perform rituals, make vows, and offer donations at the famous Uttarganga Dhorbarah Temple. He noted that worshippers have come from various parts of the country, including Baglung and neighboring districts such as Gulmi, Myagdi, Rukum, Rolpa, Pyuthan, as well as cities like Butwal, Pokhara, and Kathmandu.
The temple’s annual fair, a tradition that has been carried on for years, saw a steady stream of devotees starting Sunday morning. Although the main rituals take place on Janai Purnima, Pun mentioned that the local club has organized sports and cultural programs, extending the celebrations for several more days. Additionally, hundreds of sheep and goats were sacrificed at the temple today as part of the rituals.
Located approximately 32 kilometers west of Baglung’s second-largest commercial center, Burtibang, Dhorpatan attracts both devotees and tourists throughout the year, not just during Janai Purnima.
