Dolakha’s Bhimeshwar Temple Hosts Apology Ceremony Following Multiple Sweat Appearances

On Friday, an apology ritual was held at the Bhimeshwar Temple in Dolakha after the temple’s sacred stone displayed sweat on three occasions within a week. The phenomenon first occurred on a Saturday, with sweat appearing twice in one day, and again on Wednesday from 12:45 PM to 3:15 PM.

To mitigate the situation, a black goat and ritual offerings were sent from the President’s Office for the apology ceremony. According to Rajendra Shrestha, Secretary of the Bhimeshwar Temple Management Committee, the ritual began at 8:30 AM with materials provided by both the President’s Office and the local community.

The ceremony involved participation from the Deputy Secretary of the President’s Office, the Chief District Officer, local representatives, temple management officials, and community members. The black goats and ritual materials were delivered to Dolakha by the Deputy Secretary of the President’s Office on Thursday evening.

The sweat from the temple’s stone first appeared on Saturday from 1:47 PM to 3:51 PM, briefly halted, and then resumed until 4:15 PM. On Wednesday, it appeared continuously from 12:45 PM to 3:15 PM. The sweat initially emerged from the right side of the stone on Saturday, then from the middle, and all sides on Wednesday.

Local belief holds that sweat on the right side of the stone may affect the head of state, while sweat on the left side is thought to impact the general populace. Secretary Shrestha explained that the appearance of sweat can have both auspicious and inauspicious implications. Last Sunday, the cotton used to wipe the sweat, known as ‘Mahaprasad,’ was sent to the President’s Office by a delegation led by the Chief District Officer and temple management officials.
