Electricity Connected to Religious and Tourist Destination Kalanjhar Humpal Lake

Electricity has been successfully connected to Kalanjhar Humpal Lake, located at the highest point in the district, within the boundaries of Jaljala Rural Municipality 5 and 6. The installation was carried out on Monday, marking a significant step towards enhancing the area’s infrastructure.

According to Jaljala Rural Municipality Vice Chairperson Deepak Acharya, the electricity installation was made possible through a joint investment from Jaljala and Modi municipalities, along with technical support from the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Parbat distribution center.

Vice Chairperson Acharya inaugurated the electrification by lighting up the area. He mentioned that efforts to electrify other parts of the Humpal region are also underway.

Situated at an elevation of 3,300 meters above sea level, the Kalanjhar Humpal area is recognized as a religious and naturally beautiful tourist destination. Recently, construction of tourism infrastructure has commenced, with the federal government, provincial authorities, and the local municipality collaborating on various projects to develop Humpal as a tourist hotspot.

The improvements include the construction of shelters, viewpoints, drinking water facilities, toilets, and road upgrades. Hotel operator Tikabahadur Pun expressed optimism that the availability of electricity will significantly increase both domestic and international tourist numbers. “Previously, tourists were reluctant to stay due to the lack of electricity; now, we can accommodate them right here in Humpal,” he noted.

To develop Humpal and Jaljala as tourist destinations, a detailed project report (DPR) estimating a cost of approximately NPR 100 million has been prepared, as shared by Jaljala Rural Municipality Chairperson Rajuprasad Acharya. During the fiscal year 2079/80, the municipality built a viewpoint, toilets, and a shelter for saints at Humpal Lake. These projects were funded with NPR 2 million allocated from the federal and provincial budgets.

In the previous fiscal year, NPR 1.45 million was allocated by the municipality to complete the construction of ongoing buildings, as reported by the municipality’s engineer, Sunil Baniya.

Visitors to the area can enjoy stunning views of the Himalayan range, sunrises, sunsets, and the picturesque hilly terrain. The location offers views of more than 16 mountains, including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Nilgiri, Gurja, Putha, and Machapuchare, alongside the geographical landscapes of Baglung, Myagdi, Kaski, Syangja, Gulmi, Palpa, Gorkha, Tanahun, and Lamjung.

The region is also rich in biodiversity, home to valuable medicinal herbs like Niramasi and Panchainlo, as well as wildlife such as black deer, ghoral, leopards, bears, Himalayan tahr, monal, and kalij. Humpal features a large meadow surrounded by a forest of rhododendrons, and the municipality plans to create a pond within this meadow. Modi Municipality has also started developing pathways and tourism infrastructure in the area, further enhancing its potential as a tourist destination.
