An elephant was discovered dead this morning in Mechinagar Municipality-3, near the Dhar Dhare Tol area by the Sukeninda River.
According to the District Police Office, the elephant was found in an intoxicated state and was reported by residents as soon as they noticed the carcass in the river. The residents promptly informed both the District Police Office and the Division Forest Office.
Upon receiving the report, a joint team from the District Police Office and the Division Forest Office arrived at the scene to investigate the situation.
Jhapa’s police spokesperson, Krishna Bahadur Chand, stated that a team of veterinary experts from Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve would be arriving to conduct a thorough examination of the deceased elephant.
Further details about the cause of death and the condition of the elephant are expected following the examination by the experts.
