Ministers Praise Film’s Contribution to Nepal’s Global Image
Speaking at the event, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadak Raj Paudel said that Elephants in the Fog has played a significant role in introducing Nepal to the international community through cinema. He noted that Nepali films have made impressive progress in recent years and are increasingly gaining recognition beyond national borders.

Achievement Beyond Monetary Value, Says Communications Minister
Addressing the programme, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dr. Bikram Timilsina described the film’s achievement as a matter of national pride rather than merely an award-winning accomplishment. “The value of this success cannot be measured by Rs 250,000 or even Rs 25 million. This is a proud moment for the entire nation,” he said.
Dr. Timilsina stressed that the government remains committed to strengthening the film sector through policy reforms, legal improvements, and institutional support. He informed participants that approximately Rs 35 million has been allocated in the current fiscal year to encourage the production of quality films that represent Nepal’s voice and identity. He further stated that the government views cinema as an important creative industry capable of generating employment, promoting culture, and contributing to the national economy.
Director Calls Success a Collective Achievement of ‘Elephants in the Fog’
Receiving the honour on behalf of the film team, director Abhinash Bikram Shah expressed gratitude and described the recognition as a collective achievement of the entire Nepali film community. “This accomplishment is not mine alone. It belongs to every filmmaker, artist, technician, and creative professional working in Nepal,” Shah said. He noted that the international recognition of ‘Elephants in the Fog’ reinforced his belief that dedication and meaningful storytelling can transcend borders.

“Cinema is not merely a source of entertainment. It is a powerful medium through which we share our culture, identity, history, and stories with the world,” he said. Shah also acknowledged the support of colleagues and collaborators across the country, emphasizing that the success of Elephants in the Fog should inspire emerging filmmakers to pursue ambitious and globally relevant projects.
International Recognition Expected to Boost Tourism
Nepal Tourism Board Senior Director and Officiating CEO Hikmat Singh Ayer highlighted the positive impact that internationally recognised films can have on tourism promotion. He stated that Nepal’s breathtaking natural landscapes, diverse cultures, and rich heritage make the country an ideal destination for international film production.
According to Ayer, successful films often influence travel decisions and can significantly enhance destination branding. “This achievement of ‘Elephants in the Fog’ team is not only a proud moment for Nepal’s film industry but also for the country’s tourism sector. Internationally acclaimed films have the power to inspire people to visit the locations they see on screen,” he said. He encouraged tourism stakeholders and filmmakers to work more closely together to position Nepal as a premier filming destination while simultaneously promoting tourism.

Film Development Board Optimistic About Industry’s Future
Film Development Board Chairman Dinesh DC expressed optimism about the future of Nepal’s film industry, citing increasing international recognition and growing government support. He thanked the government for prioritising the film sector and revealed that efforts are underway to introduce long-awaited reforms in Nepal’s film-related legislation.
“The process of drafting a modern film law is moving forward. The government has shown a positive attitude toward the film sector, and this gives us confidence for the future,” he said. Highlighting the symbolic significance of the film’s success, Dinesh DC remarked that Nepal’s international identity is expanding beyond its traditional image. “Today, Nepal can be recognised not only as the country of the Himalayas but also as the country of Elephants in the Fog,” he said.
