Excitement Rises Among Local Tourism Operators as Government Announces International Flights from Pokhara

The recent government decision to commence international flights from Pokhara has sparked enthusiasm among local tourism operators. At a press conference organized by the Pokhara Tourism Council on Sunday, industry leaders welcomed the announcement and expressed optimism about its implementation.

Pom Narayan Shrestha, Chairman of the Council, highlighted the significance of various incentive programs announced by the government. According to Shrestha, incentives such as value-added tax exemptions, discounts on aviation fuel, and reductions in landing and parking fees are expected to attract numerous international airlines to operate in Pokhara, thereby making the airport busier shortly.

Shrestha attributed this decision to the persistent advocacy of tourism professionals over the past two years. Business operators had been continuously pressuring the Prime Minister, ministers, and relevant ministries to make this a reality.

The government’s decision includes special concessions for airlines operating from Pokhara and Bhairahawa, with a provision requiring airlines flying to Kathmandu to operate at least one flight to Pokhara each week.

In terms of infrastructure development, Shrestha reported that the construction of the Prithvi Highway is progressing rapidly, with approximately 80% of the work already completed.

The Pokhara Tourism Council also highlighted their efforts in promoting tourism through sports and other achievements. Shrestha expressed confidence that these new developments will elevate Pokhara’s tourism sector to new heights.
