On the occasion of World Environment Day 2082, an extensive tree plantation program is set to take place in the Bishnumati Link Road area of Kathmandu. The event, scheduled for the morning of Jestha 22 (June 5), aims to raise public awareness about environmental conservation.

The program is being jointly organized by the Nepal–Greece Friendship and Cultural Association, Kathmandu Metropolitan City–19, and the District Hotel Business Association, Kathmandu. The theme of the event aligns with the vision of a “Beautiful Green City.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, Prakash Man Singh, will be the chief guest at the event, organizers have confirmed.
According to Suresh Baral, President of the District Hotel Business Association Kathmandu, the event will also feature a traditional cultural performance presented by Nepal Khadki Sewa Samiti. “In the face of growing climate change and environmental crises, initiatives like tree plantation send a long-term message,” said Baral. “We have launched this campaign to spread awareness across the community.”
Tree Plantation Program
World Environment Day has been celebrated globally every year on June 5 since 1973 under the initiative of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Various activities are also being organized throughout Nepal this year to mark the occasion.
The organizing bodies have called on all stakeholders, local residents, students, business owners, and youth to actively participate in the tree plantation drive. They emphasized that collective efforts are essential to address the sensitive issue of environmental preservation.
