The renowned Tripurasundari Temple in Baitadi has commenced its annual Jatra. Known locally as ‘Asadhi Jaat,’ the festival takes place at the Tripurasundari Bhagwati Temple in Dasharathchand Municipality-8.
Resident Rajendra Singh Thapa explained that the ‘Asadhi Jaat’ is celebrated every year on the Ashadh Shukla Ashtami and Navami. The festival starts on the eighth day of the waxing moon in the month of Ashadh and concludes on Navami.
Traditionally, on Ashadh Shukla Ashtami, items from the Tripurasundari’s storeroom are brought and placed in the temple. On Navami, the deity is taken in a procession to Kapadigaun and then returned to be enshrined on the throne. The festival concludes in the evening when the items are returned to the storeroom.
The ‘Asadhi Jaat’ attracts a large number of devotees. Pilgrims from both Nepal and neighboring India, including regions like Jhulaghat and Pithoragarh, come to worship Tripurasundari.
The Tripurasundari Bhagwati Temple hosts similar festivals with animal sacrifices during Kartik Shukla Ashtami and Navami, and Ashadh Shukla Ashtami and Navami. Additionally, the temple holds special worship and festivities during Navaratri in Ashwin and Dashain in Chaitra. Residents venerate Tripurasundari Bhagwati as Ranashaini Bhagwati, believing that worshiping the deity fulfills their wishes.
