Finance Committee Team Visits Lumbini, Calls for Faster Development

A team led by Santosh Chalise, President of the Finance Committee under the House of Representatives, visited Lumbini on Sunday to review its development progress.

The lawmakers visited the Mayadevi Temple, the holy Pushkarani Pond, the Ashoka Pillar, and nearby monasteries. They were welcomed by Sanu Raja Shakya, Member-Secretary of the Lumbini Development Trust (LDT).

During the visit, committee member Surya Thapa expressed concern about the slow development of Lumbini, which is an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists and peace advocates worldwide. He shared that 88 percent of the Lumbini master plan has been completed but noted that a lack of funds is delaying the remaining work.

Shakya briefed the team about Lumbini’s religious, cultural, and archaeological importance and urged the lawmakers to address the budget cuts affecting the project.

The team pledged to raise the issue of funding and ensure faster progress in completing the master plan, emphasizing Lumbini’s global significance.
