Kolkata A fire broke out at a hotel in the Falpatti area of Kolkata on Tuesday night, killing 14 people and injuring 13 others. A total of 22 people were rescued from the hotel, and the fire has now been controlled. According to the police, the deceased included two women and one child. Among the 11 men who died, eight have been identified so far.
Police Commissioner Manoj Verma stated that the fire started at around 8:15 PM local time at Hotel Rituraj. As soon as they received the information, fire brigade and police teams reached the scene and began rescue and relief operations.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the incident. Initial investigations suggest that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the electricity meter installed on the fourth floor of the hotel. An eyewitness present at the scene said that many people jumped from the hotel’s roof and windows in an attempt to save their lives.
