First Nepal–Japan International Mountain Leader (IML) Alliance 2025 Held in Kathmandu

The Nepal Mountain Leader Association (NMLA) successfully organized the first-ever Nepal–Japan International Mountain Leader (IML) Alliance 2025 today at Hotel Vistara, Kathmandu, marking a historic milestone in international mountain leadership collaboration.

The landmark program was held in the distinguished presence of delegates from the Japan Mountain Guides Association (JMGA) along with UIMLA-recognized International Mountain Leaders, underscoring a shared commitment to professional excellence, safety, and global cooperation in mountain guiding.

Strengthening Professional and Cultural Collaboration

The Nepal–Japan IML Alliance has been initiated to foster long-term professional cooperation between mountain leaders of the two countries. The program focuses on the exchange of technical expertise, leadership development, safety standards, cross-cultural understanding, and the promotion of international friendship among professional mountain leaders.

Participants emphasized the growing importance of international collaboration in addressing evolving challenges in mountain tourism, adventure safety, and sustainable alpine leadership.

Key Discussions and Knowledge Sharing

A key highlight of the program was a series of technical and educational sessions addressing critical aspects of mountain leadership. Special discussions were held on high-altitude sickness management, effective communication in extreme environments, and cross-cultural coordination during international expeditions.

NMLA President Mr. Dawa Tashi Sherpa led an in-depth session on high-altitude illness awareness, prevention strategies, and field communication, drawing on his extensive experience in international mountaineering and leadership training. His presentation was widely appreciated by both Nepali and Japanese participants for its practical insights and real-world relevance.

The program witnessed active participation from the NMLA executive committee, including the President, Vice President, General Secretary, and other executive members, reflecting the association’s strong institutional commitment to international collaboration and capacity building.
