First Snowfall of the Year Blankets Humla District

Humla district experienced its first snowfall of the year, bringing both joy and challenges to the region. The snowfall began on Sunday night following a change in weather conditions earlier in the evening.

By Monday morning, Simikot, the district headquarters, recorded three inches of snow, while areas like Limi in the higher regions of North Namkha Rural Municipality saw up to a foot of snow, according to Log Bohara from the Limi Health Post.

The snowfall, though delayed this year, has brought optimism among local farmers. They believe the snow will enhance the cultivation of key crops such as wheat, barley, and rice. Residents also anticipate an improvement in weather conditions after the snowfall.

Despite the farmers’ excitement, the snowfall has disrupted normal life in various parts of the district, including Simikot and surrounding areas. The northern parts of Namkha, such as Chala, Limi, Hilsa, and Yari, have been particularly affected.

The temperature in Humla has plummeted below freezing, further intensifying the challenges faced by residents.

This first snowfall marks the onset of winter in Humla, offering a mix of hope for agricultural prospects and caution as the region braces for harsher weather conditions ahead.
