Flights at Resunga Airport have been disrupted for over a month due to continuous rain and thick fog. According to Resunga Airport Chief Suman Thapa, flights have been halted since the second week of Ashadh (mid-June) due to adverse weather conditions.
Thapa informed that Nepal Airlines, which had been operating thrice-weekly flights, has been unable to resume its services since Ashadh 14 (June 28). Passengers who had booked tickets for the Resunga-Kathmandu and Kathmandu-Resunga routes have been arriving at the airport daily only to return home disappointed.
“For the safety of the passengers, we have halted the flights until there is an improvement in weather conditions,” Thapa stated. The airport has been serving flights with Nepal Airlines’ 18-seater Twin Otter aircraft. The regular schedule includes a flight from Kathmandu at 6:30 AM and a return flight from Resunga at 7:30 AM.
According to the set fare, the cost for a one-way ticket from Kathmandu to Resunga is NPR 7,500, and from Resunga to Kathmandu, it is NPR 7,300. Commercial flights at Resunga Airport commenced last year.
Due to strong afternoon winds, it is technically feasible to operate flights only until 11 AM. The resumption of flights has led to an increase in the number of both domestic and international tourists visiting the district.
The airport office reported that there have been 125 flights from Resunga to Kathmandu in the past year. Resunga Airport is located five kilometers from the district headquarters, Tamghas.
