The Madi-Thori road in Chitwan has been severely impacted by flooding caused by the swollen Ghangharkhola rivulet, following heavy rains overnight. As a result, vehicular movement on this crucial route has been halted, leaving many vehicles stranded. Police Inspector Kedar Man Dong from the Area Police Office Madi reported that traffic will remain disrupted until the rain ceases.
The disruption is particularly concerning for the tourism sector, as this road serves as a key access route to various destinations in Chitwan. The ongoing bridge construction over the Ghangharkhola rivulet has exacerbated the issue, with flash floods frequently causing traffic interruptions. Similar bridge construction projects are underway over other rivulets, including Bagai and Magui Khola, but progress has been slow.
Mayor Tara Kumari Kaji Mahato of Madi Municipality highlighted that although bridges have been constructed over many creeks, the project to build a bridge over Patarekhola has yet to commence. She has urged the Hulaki Road Project Office to expedite the bridge construction to mitigate future disruptions and support the local tourism industry.
Tourists and local travelers are advised to check current road conditions before planning their journeys, as the continued heavy rainfall and ongoing construction may further impact travel in the region.
