Chinese mountaineer Shi Jungi has been honoured for successfully climbing Mount Everest and Lhotse in a single continuous expedition during the Spring 2026 climbing season, marking a remarkable achievement in Himalayan mountaineering. Chinese Climber Shi Jungi, along with Nepali mountain guides Ningma Tamang and Dawa Nuru Rai Sherpa, was honoured by former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at a special ceremony held on Wednesday.
Historic Double Summit in a Single Expedition
According to the organisers, Chinese Climber Shi Jungi successfully summited Mount Everest on May 14, 2026, through the Himalayan Mountaineering Expedition.
Instead of following the common practice of descending only to Camp IV before attempting Lhotse, Shi Jungi’s team descended further to Camp II before launching their successful ascent of Lhotse on May 18, 2026.
The continuous expedition demonstrated exceptional endurance, technical expertise, and determination under challenging high-altitude conditions.
Prachanda Praises Extraordinary Mountaineering Feat
Speaking at the event, Prachanda commended Chinese Climber Shi Jungi and his team for accomplishing the rare non-stop ascent of two of the world’s highest mountains during the same climbing season.
He said climbing Everest and Lhotse consecutively places immense demands on a mountaineer’s physical fitness, technical skills and mental resilience.
“The successful back-to-back ascent of Everest and Lhotse has pushed the boundaries of global mountaineering and reflects extraordinary courage and pioneering spirit,” he said.
Emotional Connection to the Himalayas
Prachanda also shared his personal connection with the mountains, recalling that his late son, Prakash Dahal, had successfully climbed Mount Everest.
He expressed deep respect for all climbers who honour the mountains and prioritise safe mountaineering practices while pursuing their expeditions.
Mountaineering Strengthens Nepal-China Friendship
Prachanda said people-to-people ties created through mountaineering continue to strengthen the cultural and friendly relations between Nepal and China.
He expressed confidence that cooperation in Himalayan tourism and mountaineering would further deepen bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries.

Receiving the honour, Shi Jungi credited his historic achievement to the dedicated support and professionalism of his Nepali mountain guides.
He thanked Ningma Tamang and Dawa Nuru Rai Sherpa for their invaluable contribution throughout the expedition and said the success would not have been possible without their expertise.
Chinese Climber Shi Jungi also expressed his commitment to continuing his involvement in Himalayan mountaineering while contributing to stronger Nepal-China friendship through future climbing activities.
