The foundation stone for a new cable car in southern Lalitpur was laid today, marking the beginning of a significant tourism infrastructure project. The cable car will span 2.8 kilometers, connecting Ward No. 3 to Ward No. 5 of Bagmati Rural Municipality.
The project, being developed by Destination Majhkhanda Pvt. Ltd., involves an estimated investment of Rs 1.2 billion. In addition to the cable car, the company plans to build a hotel and a fun park to enhance tourism in the region, according to company Chairperson Gopal Sanjel. The construction is expected to be completed within 18 months.
During the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Member of the House of Representatives Udaya Shamsher Rana emphasized the tourism potential of southern Lalitpur. He urged political parties and public representatives to promote the region professionally to attract more visitors. Rana also highlighted the upcoming full operation of the Kanti Highway by next year and mentioned an ongoing survey, with the support of JICA and other organizations, to mitigate landslide risks at seven locations along the highway.
The cable car project is anticipated to boost local tourism and improve connectivity, making southern Lalitpur an emerging destination for visitors.
