Talks Begin to Resolve Pathivara Cable Car Dispute

A government-led talks team formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs has initiated discussions to resolve the ongoing disputes over the construction of a cable car in the Pathivara Temple (Mukkumlung) area. The dialogues officially began on Monday, aiming to address concerns raised by local residents and various stakeholders.

The team, coordinated by Joint-Secretary Prem Prasad Bhattarai, has engaged with both government agencies and representatives of the protesting parties. “We have initiated dialogues with the representatives of the protesting groups in Kathmandu, and preliminary discussions are underway,” said Bhattarai.

The Ministry established the talks team last Saturday in response to growing opposition from local communities. In parallel, the agitating groups have also formed a facilitation team led by scholar Amar Tumyahang, comprising representatives from Mukkumlung (Pathivara) Temple patronage organizations and political parties.

The dispute revolves around the construction of a cable car line from Kaflepati to the sacred Pathivara Temple, dedicated to Goddess Pathivara. Protestors argue that the project threatens environmental conservation and encroaches on indigenous cultural heritage.

As discussions continue, both sides are expected to deliberate on possible resolutions, balancing infrastructure development with cultural and environmental preservation.
