A French national has died while attempting to summit Mt. Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain. The deceased has been identified as 63-year-old Margrita Morin, who had received official climbing permission from Nepal’s Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation.
Morin, along with another French climber, began their ascent from the southern face of Kanchenjunga, located in Sirijangha Rural Municipality–8 of Taplejung district, on Baishakh 26 (May 9). According to the District Police Office, the duo reached approximately 8,000 meters elevation at around 11:00 PM on Baishakh 27 (May 10), when Morin reportedly began experiencing severe respiratory problems, ultimately leading to her death.
Her climbing guide, Yogendra Tamang, informed authorities about the incident. Police sources further confirmed that Morin’s body is currently located at an altitude of approximately 7,500 meters above sea level. Authorities are coordinating with relevant agencies to manage the recovery operation under challenging high-altitude conditions.
