The Gai Jatra Festival, organized by the Cultural Corporation, commenced today at the Rastriya Naachghar in Jamal. The event, titled “Shree Riddhi Siddhi Jewellers Gai Jatra Festival 2081,” celebrates the unique cultural traditions of the Newar community.
The festival aims to honor and preserve the cultural heritage and values associated with Gai Jatra, a significant festival for the Newar community. Inaugurating the event, Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, emphasized the importance of such festivals in safeguarding traditional cultural practices.
Yesterday’s program featured performances by popular artists including Dhurmus-Suntali, Palpasa Chamsuri, and Joginder Mula Saag, who used satire to address social and political issues. Additionally, the traditional Makh Pyakhan dance of the Newar community from Bhaktapur was showcased.
The festival will run until August 26, 2024, with performances scheduled daily from 5 PM onwards.
