Gandaki Province Chief Dilliram Bhatta has emphasized the need to develop Buddha’s teachings into a universal message of peace. Speaking at an interactive seminar organized by Lumbini University and the Lumbini Research Center in Pokhara, he inaugurated the event focused on establishing a Center for Buddhist Heritage, Culture, and Literature Studies.

Chief Bhatt highlighted that Buddha’s philosophy should not only be limited to followers of Buddhism but should be recognized as a guiding moral philosophy for all humanity. He emphasized that following and internalizing Buddha’s teachings is essential in today’s world, and Nepal must benefit from spreading these teachings globally.

Reflecting on the establishment of Lumbini Buddhist University two decades ago, he mentioned that it has evolved into a significant institution for producing scholarly experts in Buddhist philosophy. He expressed satisfaction that the university, which began with limited infrastructure, has now developed into a full-fledged academic institution that increases national and international interest in Lumbini and Buddha. While Buddhist studies are offered globally, he stated that studying them from the very birthplace of Buddha is a uniquely enriching experience.

Chief Bhatt also appreciated the university’s initiative in launching a campaign for “Buddhist Education in Schools,” and praised its approach to encourage visitors to come to Lumbini not just for religious devotion, but also for acquiring knowledge. Supporting the decision to establish a Buddhist academic center in Gandaki Province, he assured that the provincial government is committed to providing necessary support and coordination to further Buddhist education and research in the region.
