Gandaki Province Government’s Infrastructure Boost: 233 Kilometers of Cemented Roads Completed in One Year

The Gandaki Province government has made significant strides in improving its infrastructure, particularly in road construction, enhancing connectivity and accessibility across the region. Over the past fiscal year 2080/81 BS, a total of 233 kilometers of cemented roads have been constructed, marking a substantial development in the province’s transport network.

According to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport Management, the new roads were blacktopped and paved through a combination of multi-year and annual projects. This comprehensive effort also included graveling 97 kilometers of roads, constructing 55 kilometers of new raw roads, and widening 146.63 kilometers of existing roads.

Senior divisional engineer at the Ministry, Ram Kumar Shrestha, highlighted the extensive infrastructure work completed in the past year, spanning 11 districts within Gandaki Province. In addition to road construction, 227.13 kilometers of drains and 178 causeways and culverts were built to support and maintain the road infrastructure.

The province also focused on maintaining and repairing existing roads. A total of 219,149.54 cubic meters of retaining walls were built, and 47 kilometers of roads underwent regular repairs to ensure safety and longevity. These efforts reflect the province’s commitment to sustaining its infrastructure investments and ensuring road safety for its residents and tourists.

In the past fiscal year, the Gandaki Province government also constructed 21 motorable bridges and 19 suspension bridges, further enhancing the connectivity between remote areas and facilitating smoother transportation. Additionally, 25 buildings were constructed, supporting the province’s broader infrastructure development goals.

With a capital budget exceeding Rs 12.18 billion, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport Management successfully utilized 71.74 percent of the allocated funds, amounting to approximately Rs 8.74 billion. This efficient budget utilization underscores the government’s dedication to infrastructure development and efficient project management.

Since the establishment of the province government seven years ago, Gandaki Province has seen the blacktopping of 901 kilometers and the graveling of 696 kilometers of roads. The province has also constructed 106 motorable bridges and 84 suspension bridges, marking a significant transformation in its infrastructure landscape. These developments have been instrumental in enhancing the region’s connectivity, supporting local economies, and promoting tourism.

The extensive infrastructure development in Gandaki Province, particularly the improved road network, is poised to have a profound impact on tourism. Enhanced connectivity makes it easier for tourists to access various destinations within the province, from the popular trekking routes in the Annapurna region to the serene landscapes of Pokhara and beyond.
