Gaurigaun Lake, located in Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City-10, Gaurigaun, has been largely overlooked despite its proximity to the town and potential as a tourism destination. Though the lake is situated just south of the market, it has remained under-promoted, leading to low visitor numbers.
Originally, the site featured seven lakes, which were later merged into one, covering an area of approximately eight bighas. The lake has not seen significant tourism activity despite its size and natural beauty. “People walking by occasionally stop to take pictures, but very few come to fully explore the lake,” shared resident Ramesh Budhathoki.
Budhathoki emphasized the need for more promotion, noting that the lake, being the largest in Dang, has the potential to become a key attraction. Its proximity to the Tulsipur market and easy access via road networks make it a promising tourism destination. “Even small lakes in remote areas have become tourism hotspots, but this large lake in an accessible area has been ignored,” he added.
A Shiva temple, built at a cost of approximately one crore, stands in the center of the lake, with five statues of Shiva, Ganesh, Surya, Devi, and Vishnu placed within. A 45-meter bridge has also been constructed to provide access to the temple.
During the monsoon season, rainwater collects in the lake and remains throughout the year. Additionally, fish farming is carried out in the lake, adding to its economic and ecological value. Local efforts to promote the lake as a tourism hub could see it rise in prominence with proper attention and infrastructure development.
