Gauritap Zipline Inaugurated in Solukhumbu to Boost Adventure Tourism

A new adventure tourism attraction has officially begun operation in the high-altitude region of Gauritap, marking the first-ever zipline service in the area. The initiative aims to strengthen tourism promotion and expand income-generating opportunities for local communities.

First Zipline Introduced at High-Altitude Destination

The zipline has been constructed in the scenic Gauritap area, located at an altitude of around 3,000 meters above sea level near the border of Pattale, a well-known tourist destination in the region. The project was developed by Nechasalyan Rural Municipality as part of its strategy to boost adventure and rural tourism. Officials said the new infrastructure is expected to attract both domestic and international visitors, encouraging longer stays and increased tourism spending in the district.

According to Rural Municipality Chair Dhanjan Rai, the project has been implemented with the objective of increasing tourist inflow, improving local income, and strengthening tourism linkages with neighboring districts and municipalities.

He said the development of tourism infrastructure in Gauritap will help promote rural tourism and support community livelihoods through expanded business opportunities. Vice Chairperson Bina Rai stated that the municipality has invested around Rs. 80 lakh in the project, which includes not only the zipline but also additional recreational facilities.

Multi-Adventure Tourism Facilities Developed

Along with the 550-meter-long zipline, the area now features several adventure and recreational activities, including cycling, swimming, climbing, and a dedicated viewpoint for visitors. These facilities have been designed to create a complete adventure tourism experience in one location.

The infrastructure was constructed by Kalika Nirman Sewa under an agreement signed on Shrawan 11, 2082 BS. According to Engineer Sujan Sharma of the municipality’s infrastructure development branch, the project was completed ahead of schedule, with an initial target of Chaitra 2082 BS.

Test Operation and Public Response

The zipline was officially opened on Baishakh 1, 2083 BS, coinciding with the Nepali New Year. On the opening day, it was operated on a trial basis, during which more than 100 visitors experienced the adventure activity. Local officials said the strong public response indicates high potential for tourism growth in the area.

Regular Operation to Be Handed Over to Private Operator

The municipality has announced that a formal tender process will be conducted to hand over the operation of the zipline to a professional management organization. This is expected to ensure safety standards, efficient management, and sustainable operation of the facility. Authorities also confirmed that revenue generated from the project will be shared, with 70 percent going to the local government and 30 percent allocated to the Bhedikhore Community Forest.

The Gauritap–Pattale region, which lies between Solukhumbu District and Solu Dudhkunda Municipality, offers panoramic views of Mount Everest and other Himalayan ranges. In recent years, the area has been gaining popularity as a tourism hub due to its natural beauty, accessibility, and growing adventure tourism offerings. Local stakeholders believe that with continued infrastructure development and proper management, Gauritap has the potential to become one of the leading adventure tourism destinations in eastern Nepal.
