Government Steps In to Secure History with Digital Archiving Initiative

The Government of Nepal has announced plans to begin digital archiving of historically and archaeologically significant records, in a bid to preserve the nation’s rich cultural and historical heritage for future generations.

Government to Initiate Digital Archiving

The announcement was made during the joint session of the Federal Parliament yesterday, where Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel presented the national budget for the upcoming fiscal year. According to the budget statement, a specific allocation has been made for initiating the process of digital archiving of ancient documents and artifacts of national importance.

In a related move aimed at honoring Nepal’s intellectual legacy, the government has also proposed the construction of Panini Gyan Udyan (Panini Knowledge Park) in Panena, Arghakhanchi, in memory of Rishi Panini, the ancient scholar credited with the foundational work on Sanskrit grammar.

The budget further reinforces the government’s commitment to preserving Nepal’s ancient history, cultural traditions, and archaeological heritage. This includes safeguarding tangible and intangible assets that are considered part of Nepal’s national identity.

Experts believe that the digitization of ancient records will not only ensure their preservation against physical degradation and loss but also provide broader access for researchers, students, and historians globally.

The initiative is expected to be carried out in collaboration with cultural institutions, historians, and digital technology experts to maintain both accuracy and authenticity during the archiving process.
