Govt. Issues Travel Advisory for Nepali Citizens to Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a three-point travel advisory for Nepali citizens planning to travel to Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos, urging them to exercise caution when traveling to these countries, particularly for foreign employment purposes.

In the advisory issued on Monday, the Ministry highlighted recent reports of racketeers involved in human trafficking and criminal activities, who have been luring Nepali nationals with promises of attractive salaries. These individuals are then forced into illegal activities once in the destination countries.

The Ministry outlined various issues faced by Nepali workers, including employers confiscating passports, requiring employees to work 12-13 hours a day, subjecting them to excessive torture, and withholding salaries. The government emphasized that such actions are illegal and punishable under the law.

The Ministry advised Nepali citizens to avoid traveling on visit visas for foreign employment and to obtain thorough information about prospective employers and firms through Nepali missions abroad. It also urged individuals to personally verify the legitimacy of employers by checking their official websites before accepting job offers.

This advisory aims to safeguard the well-being of Nepali nationals abroad and prevent them from falling victim to exploitative practices.
